Tell us about yourself and your job.
I’m a sophomore accounting major at NC State. Born in Raleigh and raised in Nigeria.
Interned with the Fixed Assets team at BMW Manufacturing.
How did you end up in your field? What do you like about it?
Got exposed to accounting in high school in Nigeria and i loved the defined path that it provided and the fast-paced nature of the role. I'm quantitatively inclined also so that was a factor
What does a typical morning look like on the job?
Many meetings, and little work.
Cool, then what does a typical afternoon look like?
Shadowing employees to gain a sense of their responsibilities so I could take it off their plates while doing some independent work
What types of projects and meetings are you involved in?
I was assigned a few projects to tackle solo, and I shadowed a few members of my team frequently (wasn't provided training as team was very lean so had to do this to gain an understanding of the work) Involved in meetings with management to reflect on tasks/ strategize to tackle new problem, etc

What's the most challenging thing about your job?
It was an extremely technical role
What are some characteristics that can help someone succeed in your role?
Excel and SAP knowledge would be great but the role itself was really technical. Being willing and quick to learn would be very important
Any advice on how to stand out and get hired for those just starting off?
Network really hard (aim for at least 3 calls a week), and do deep research into various careers to decide what suits you.
What do you see your next step being?
I have an affinity for private equity.
Any last thoughts, advice, or recommendations for someone who wants to do what you do?
Networking is essential!
